MATTOON (JG-TC) -- The JG-TC today is launching a new project that highlights 30 of the "things" that identify East Central Illinois.
For 30 days, we'll feature one thing a day. The first is Old Main, which as the front door to Eastern Illinois University stands as a recognizable structure readily identified with our region and our regional university.
You have free articles remaining.
Each day a new item will be added with a photo and text in the lower right hand corner of Page A3. The project also has online components, including a memory game that uses photos of the featured items. The game and digital features will be accessible at www.jg-tc.com/30things.
Most of the items you'll find predictable, such as Old Main, Lake Land College, Amish Country and Lake Shelbyville. Readers likely will find all or most all as recognizable pieces of the East Central Illinois landscape in one form or another.
We have settled on 23 of the items and have more than enough to get to 30. We left a few spots open to consider your submissions, too.
If you'd like to make a suggestion, send it along with your reasoning on why it should be included to JG-TC, 700 Broadway Ave., East, Mattoon, IL 61938 or email to firstname.lastname@example.org
