CHARLESTON -- Carol J. Kemp, 79, of Charleston, died at 9:53 a.m. Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon.
Carol was born October 10, 1939 in Hettick, the daughter of Wayne and Margaret Cooksey Arnett. She married Jack E. Kemp in Tupelo, Mississippi on December 19, 1955.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Kemp of Charleston; son, Rob Kemp of Charleston; daughters, Peggy Camp and Jodi (Jerry) Brimner both of Charleston; 2 brothers, Kenny (Margie) Arnett and Rick (Kathy) Arnett both of Hettick; grandchildren, Adam (Kori), Taylor, Gunnar, and Travis Brimner, Jami Goetten (Garrod Eads), Whitney Camp; 5 great grandchildren, Karter, Kroy, and Klay Brimner, Charlie Gansz, and Maggie Goetten; and many nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Nancy Tosh.
Carol graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Home Economics degree. She taught school in Kansas, Mattoon, and Charleston. She ran the Home Bound Program at Mattoon High School, was a member of the Book Club; Drama Study; Home Extension; and the “Lunch Bunch”. Carol loved to play Bunko and go to rummage sales with the girls.
Carol was one of the last charter members of the Central Christian Church in Charleston where she was active in the Bible study group. Memorials are suggested to the church.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Central Christian Church, 915 W. Lincoln Avenue, Charleston. Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, is assisting the family with arrangements.
