MATTOON -- Carolyn Sue (Sandiford) Gose, age 71, of Mattoon passed away at 3:27 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at her residence.
Funeral services honoring her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at First Baptist Church, 1804 South 9th Street, Mattoon with Pastor Dennis Strawn officiating. Burial will follow at Enon Baptist Church Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at First Baptist Church. An additional visitation will be held prior to services, Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Carolyn was born on August 19, 1945 in Seven Hickory Township the daughter of Joe and Letha (Madlem) Sandiford. She married Don Gose on August 16, 1964.
Survivors include her loving husband, Don Gose of Mattoon, IL; daughters, Kim (Pat) Henness of Mattoon, IL and Lisa (Jeff) Roush of Paris, IL; grandchildren, Doug (Megan) Henness, Craig Henness, Ben Roush and Emilee Roush; sister, Geneva Clapp of Tolono, IL; and many special family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Lela Mae Ayers and Maxine Neese and three brothers-in-law.
Carolyn was a graduate of Arcola High School, class of 1963. Carolyn was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mattoon where she served in many capacities. Before moving to Mattoon, Carolyn worked cleaning houses for many years. She worked for the American Cancer Society as well as the Mattoon Tourism Council. She was a member of the Supper Club and the Monday Bridge Club of Paris. Carolyn enjoyed traveling on cruises and train trips, including Alaska, Hawaii and other places in the United States with her friends and family. She genuinely enjoyed being a homemaker and delighted in preparing meals for family gatherings. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, always supporting her family in various school activities and sports. Carolyn will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.
Memorial donations in her honor are suggested to First Baptist Church of Mattoon, Lincolnland Hospice of Mattoon or the ALS Association St. Louis Regional Chapter, 2258 Weldon Parkway, St. Louis, MO 63146-3206.
