MATTOON — Gary Robert Roytek. Age 68 of Bloomington MN. Passed away suddenly of a heart attack on April 3, 2019. Born December 15, 1950 in Mattoon, IL.
Son of Richard and Margaret Roytek (both deceased). Brother of John Roytek (Ann), Mattoon, IL; Michael Roytek, Arlington, TX; Ann Rylko (Michael), Deer Park, IL; Mary "Moni" Sheehan (Mark), Mattoon, IL. Stepson of Wanda Roytek, Mattoon, IL. Uncle of Anthony Sheehan (deceased), Michael, Sarah and Emily Roytek. Fiancé Sue Hinrichs, her children Jessi Brink (Chris), Heather Rhein (Kevin); grandchildren Hannah, Melanie, Carter, Dalia Brink, and future in-laws Carol Radunz (Robert, deceased), Doug Radunz (Bonnie), Jeff Radunz (Lynn), Sandy Moroney (Brady). Gary also leaves behind many close family members and his longtime friends the ‘groundhogs’.
Gary spent most of his career in the Dairy Queen business: working in his family DQ restaurant, corporately, and in distribution. Later he worked for DHL, and then as a semi-retired school bus driver.
Gary had a passion for golf and photography. He traveled the world (founding member of the Waddy Patrol), enjoying new adventures and creating memories along the way. He loved the outdoors: snowmobiling, boating, biking, and yard projects! A 40+ year member and 4th degree w/ Knights of Columbus. Longtime volunteer for Special Olympics.
