CHARLESTON -- Helen Louise Harwood, age 93, of Neoga, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, February 10, 2019. A graveside service celebrating her life will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13, at Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston, Illinois with Pastor Van Brooks officiating. It is requested that donations in her honor be made to New Hope Church. Gifts may be mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920.
Helen, affectionately known as Honey, was born March 13, 1925 in rural Coles County to the late Robert and Electa (Endsley) Miller. She married Jesse Harwood on August 18, 1946 and they shared 61 years of marriage prior to his death in June of 2008. She is survived by their children, Phil (Jane) Harwood of Jackson, Tennessee, Carol (Scott) King of Neoga, Illinois, and Jeff (Sara) Harwood of Charleston, Illinois; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Honey was preceded by three sisters, one brother and a grandson.
Honey was a woman of both faith and family. She attended New Hope Church in Effingham, Illinois and believed in God with all her heart and soul. She made a wonderful home for her family and helped raise all of her grandchildren. She was one to always put other's need above her own. She will be affectionately remembered by all.
