Charlie was a long time member of Immaculate Conception Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. His faith in God guided him daily in his work, and was a source of strength to him often.
Charlie had a few hobbies – gardening and telling stories of his family history and life’s lessons learned. These hobbies brought many hours of enjoyment to him and those who had their “ears bent”.
Charlie’s first career began as an apprentice carpenter, building many homes in the Mattoon area. In 1967, he became a bridge superintendent for Howell Asphalt. He was very proud to be a part of building so many bridges along interstates 57 and 64 during the early 60’s and 70’s.
In 1974, Charlie and Jean purchased Brown Implement and together formed Reinhart Ford Tractor, Inc., later merging with Farm Pride, Inc. Charlie was known for taking his time with each customer to make sure that the customer always felt they were “number one”. Charlie made many life-long friends by giving that extra personal touch in all business dealings. His 41 years of selling farm equipment served to teach many in the business how to best serve the rural and urban customer. He was a terrific teacher and mentor to all.
