CHARLESTON -- Kenneth Eugene Hadwiger, age 83 of Charleston, died on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
A Memorial Service honoring and celebrating his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Visitation will be on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until service time. A Private Inurnment will be at Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be made to the Eastern Illinois University Foundation and left at the visitation/service or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920.
Ken was born on July 18, 1936 in Alva, Oklahoma, one of three sons born to the late Claude L. and Edith D. (Hamann) Hadwiger.
He is survived by son, Michael E. Hadwiger and wife Gayla of Fairview Heights, Illinois; three grandchildren, Sara (Jason) Banahan, Thomas Hadwiger and Jessica Hadwiger; a great-grandson, Darrow Banahan; and a brother, Lee A. (Mildred) Hadwiger of Washington.

He was preceded in death by a son, Mark A. Hadwiger and a brother, Donald Hadwiger.
Dr. Hadwiger located to Charleston in 1964 and accepted a position with Eastern Illinois University to develop a media curriculum and oversee the student radio station. He progressed through EIU's academic ranks to Professor.
Ken wanted to make certain that his profound thanks be extended to EIU and the Charleston community for giving him such a free and pleasant environment in which to study and to live.
