MATTOON - Rachael Dawn Rominger, age 51, of Mattoon, IL was surrounded by family when she slipped from this world after her second battle against cancer to join her Lord at 7:27 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family.

Born April 24, 1969, in Mattoon, IL, she was the daughter of John and Karen (Grant) Carter. Even though they had lived in the same town all their lives and had many mutual friends, Rachael met David Rominger at a party where they ended up planning their wedding and mapping out their life. It was love at first sight, with each wondering why they hadn't found each other sooner. Several months later, on May 5, 1990, she and Dave were married and recently celebrated 30 wonderful years together.

A 1986 graduate of Mattoon High School, Rachael attended Eastern Illinois University. She furthered her education with certifications as a CCS, CPC and CRC. Currently, she worked as a medical informational manager and dictation training specialist for the Virginia-based firm, Patient First, which provides services for critical care clinics throughout the United States.

When Dave's job necessitated a move to Logansport, Indiana, Rachael acclimated quite easily for she never knew a stranger. She started her own transcription service and was the executive director of the Logansport Memorial Hospital Foundation – raising money for improvements and programs.

While in Logansport, she was a member of the Cross~Wind United Methodist Church. She was very active in all aspects of her sons' activities. Rachael was a much-loved, very active member of Tri Kappa, an Indiana philanthropic sorority that brings women in close friendship to promote charity, culture and education.

Rachael's face, as beautiful as it was, became even more so when she smiled and things seemed to brighten up all around. Her eyes revealed a caring spirit and a gentle heart. She loved beyond measure and will be missed beyond belief by those who loved her best.

Surviving with husband are her sons; Zachary Rominger and Connor Rominger, mother; Karen Carter, sister; Kari (Basil) Beadles, sister-in-law; Jennifer Rominger, nephews; Trevor Cothern, Anthony Giordano, Kristian Beadles, and niece; Kelley Cothern. Rachael was welcomed into her Heavenly Father's loving arms and by her own dad, John Carter, who preceded her in death a few months ago.

A Funeral Service celebrating Rachael's life will take place at Schilling Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, August 3, 2020, with Pastor Josh Butler officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at Schilling Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her honor may be given to Lincolnland Hospice.

Online condolences may be expressed at or Schilling Funeral Home's Facebook page.
