MATTOON -- Raymond E. Hoelscher, age 91, of Mattoon passed away at 9:59 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Mattoon. Burial with full Military Rites will be at Calvary Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Schilling Funeral Home.
Ray was born on May 2, 1924 in Teutopolis the son of Bernard “Ben” Hoelscher and Clara Donsbach. He married Loretta Bushur on July 15, 1947 in Effingham and she preceded him in death on July 8, 2004. He married Pauline Lawrence on November 25, 2007. She survives.
Ray was a World War II and Korean War Veteran and is a lifetime member of the VFW. He is a member of the Eagles, Knights of Columbus and Immaculate Conception Church of Mattoon.
Ray is survived by his wife, Pauline; son, David (Janice) Hoelscher of Mason, IL, Charles (Susan) Hoelscher of Effinghan, IL, Michael (Debra) Hoelscher of Troy, IL, William (Cindy) Hoelscher of Mattoon, IL, James (Carol) Hoelscher of Teutopolis, IL; daughters, Myra (Tom) Einhorn of Effingham, IL, Karen (Chris) Knox of Mattoon, IL; son-in-law, Larry Owen of Mattoon, IL; stepsons, Dan (Toq) Lawrence of Mattoon, IL, Larry Lawrence of Mattoon, IL, Tom Lawrence of Mattoon, IL, Bob (Joyce) Lawrence of Charleston, IL and Jim (Becky) Lawrence of St. Peters, MO; stepdaughters, Mary (Michael) Hawker of Charleston, IL, Anne (Rob) Catey of Charleston, IL and Nancy Thornton of Garland, TX; 20 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 16 step grandchildren and 10 great step grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary Hoelscher of Teutopolis, IL, Marilyn Lane, Diane Pullen, Micki Bushur and Madonna Bushur all of Effingham, IL; brothers-in-law, Paul (Betty) Bushur of Sigel, IL, Carl (Dorothy) Bushur of Effinghan, IL, Earl Bushur of Effinghan, and Robert Bushur of Stewardson, IL; and special family friend, Eileen Doedtman of Effingham, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Lynn (Larry) Owen; brothers, Edward, Elmer, Leonard and Lawrence. 4 brothers-in-law and 6 sisters-in-law.
Memorial donations in his honor are suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic School, Mattoon Food Pantry or the donor’s choice.
