Saddam Hussein was born into a Sunni tribe of southeastern Iraq which is an area that is mainly Shiite Muslim but more tribal in character such as honor killing if a girl has sexual relations before marriage. His mother then married and his stepfather treated him brutally and he ran away to Baghdad where an uncle took him in as he was living on the streets. There he and his uncle’s daughter fell in love, and as he had little education, a military career was decided on.

Syria had joined the United Arab Republic but with so many minorities in both Syria and Iraq, they created the Ba’ath Party which was based differently to Abdel Gamal Nasser’s United Arab Republic.

Saddam had organizational skills that were recognized and he quickly rose to positions of power so when Israel attached all its neighbors on June 8, 1967, Saddam was sent as an envoy to meet with Nasser in 1968 to confer with him on joining the Ba’ath Party with Nasser’s United Arab Republic, and Nasser seeing it prudent to make friends with the CIA, introduced Saddam to the CIA. Colonel Muammar Gaddafi had offered to unite oil rich Libya with Egypt and the Israeli Mossad seeing this as making Egypt more important in the Arab world, poisoned Nasser.

Saddam then became next in line to Al Bakr, who fell ill and resigned, leaving Hussein in power, and when Richard Nixon told the Shah to get OPEC to raise the price of oil four times to make Iran an American base to keep peace between Russia and China (after the secret atomic war (Oct. 13, 1969)), the price went quickly to eight times the former price, and Saddam nationalized the oil production of Iraq along with it banks and money poured in; he bought 2,000 top Russian tanks that Israeli military said he could send those tanks across Jordan into Israel and do a lot of damage. And Saddam sent money to Palestinians who had to use to use the Shekel, the world’s worst currency. No other Arab state gave Palestinians money but they took in Palestinians.

Now Saudi Arabia was made Head of the Arab World in January 1945 by Churchill and Roosevelt because King Saud accepted Israel’s right to exist, as a tall Austrian Jew who said he converted to Islam and became a great friend of King Saud said, “Look my friend, if Jews and Muslims live together in Palestine, Jews will see the superiority of Islam and convert."

Saud said, “You’re right.” And so Winston Churchill gave Saud a Rolls Royce he never used and Roosevelt gave him an airplane which he used. And the American oil companies gave Saudi Arabia 75 percent of the royalties and 25 percent for Americans which led to the US overthrow of Iran by the CIA in 1953.

Now Saddam was coaxed to attack Iran in 1978 because Iran’s oil is in Khuzestan next to Iraq. With Iran’s oil and Iraq’s oil, Iraq would be the biggest oil producer. However, Iran was the third most powerful nation in Asia (after Russia and China) with the super weapons Nixon allowed the Shah to buy. So America took out those super weapons, and got Iranian Communist youths to run to Iraq to form the Mujahedeen Khalk. By keeping an arms embargo on Iran, that made it weak and the war ended in a stalemate. So Saddam occupied oil-rich Kuwait and oil wells were set on fire. Thick black smoke turned day into night.

Red O’Dare said it would take three years to put the fires out. Iranians came with and jet engine on a truck, backed it to the flaming well and the fire was out in minutes. The US complained and wanted the Iranians out and Iranians gave the truck to Hungary.

Andrew Patterson was born on a dairy farm two miles south of Sullivan on Feb. 13, 1930. He has attended eight universities for a total of 10 years, lived in 10 countries for 28 years, traveled in 50, speaks and writes Spanish, reads French and German, has written seven encyclopedia articles, and numerous reports and studies for World Bank, Pan American Union, and Economic Development.

Descendant from 15 American Revolutionary ancestors (16th was Cherokee), history is his life's blood, as is telling the truth. He states, "The day I stop learning is the day I am dead,” and “The hardest thing in life has been to unlearn what has been taught to me as the truth.” He has learned there are many men who have stopped WW III from China, Russia, and other countries and it cost them their life. President John F. Kennedy was one of them.
