This letter to the editor is in response to some of the issues discussed at our morning coffee meetings and maybe an opinion. Coles Together has been around some time now, do they have any projects in the future for Mattoon? Are there any prospects for the old G.E. Plant and land? And where does the project for the Dole farmland stand as of today?
Mattoon has had many parades each year and they are quite nice to have now and then. This year's Bagelfest parade was quite large, it would be nice if organizers were able to lessen the wide gaps between participants and also get parents to control the children from running out into the street for candy. This could be an accident waiting to happen.
Some issues discussed around Mattoon have to do with why the hold-up on the Marshall 9th to 14th street project? The thought was to get it done in 2018. The PADS project was going great guns, but now seems to be stalled. A question in Facebook about the 2200 to 2400 block Broadway asks why the city is not taking action on the junkyards in that area. It is rumored that the landowner has some leverage over what the city can force them to do about cleaning up the nuisance.
Last, does the paper know if any progress on talks about Sarah Bush Hospital and Health Alliance coming to an agreement on insurance coverage for Medicare has changed or does it end this year? Seems that this is a great loss to our hospital and the insurance company. Many people will need to determine what doctors and hospitals will continue to meet their necessities.
