As a former junior high and high school educator and wife of a former high school administrator, I believe beyond a doubt that Michael N. Smith is the most qualified person to become Regional Office of Education # 11 Superintendent. Having known Michael for 24 years, I can personally attest to his character and dedication to education. As a teacher, coach, K-12 principal, assistant superintendent and now superintendent, Michael has proven that he has the work ethic and determination necessary to make our education system better.
In all he does, Michael demonstrates exemplary character, honesty, and a dedication to our children's future that cannot be matched. He's willing to make the positive changes within our region to improve our schools now and for the future. He is not afraid to back up his beliefs with the ability to make tough decisions when they need to be made.
Michael has continued to improve the school districts in which he has been a superintendent and I am confident that he can work with district superintendents in our area to improve our regional district. He exhibits a remarkable balance of attention to detail with practicality. He has been a sound resource to the area schools when advice is needed, especially when it comes to finances. He lead the Tuscola CUSD #301 from $0 in fund balances to over $5,000,000 over the course of 7 years without raising property taxes.
Michael not only assists area schools with financial advice, but he also reaches out to offer support where he can provide it. From new administrator mentoring to working with neighboring school districts to combine professional development resources, Michael is a team player. I see that as a gift that will be of great value to our school districts within the region.
So as you head to the polls on March 20th, please be sure to cast your vote for Michael N. Smith, an experienced superintendent.
