Soccer camp set at Mattoon
MATTOON – A soccer camp for grades 5-14 is scheduled for June and July at Mattoon High Schoool.
Ryan Ghere, the Mattoon High School boys' and girls' coach and his assistants Jason Morgan and Shad Huddleston are to provide instructions.
Sessions for ages 5-7 are 5-6 p.m. June 2-4 and 9 -10 a.m. June 5.
For ages 8-10 the times are 6-7 p.m. June 2-4 and 10-11 a.m. June 15.
Ages are 11-14 are to have their camp at 10-11:30 a.m. July 14-16.
Cost is $25 with each participant to receive a T-shirt.

Green Wave basketball camp coming
MATTOON – The Green Wave Boys' Basketball Camp is scheduled for June 9-13 at Mattoon High School.
The camp is open to boys entering grades 3-12.
Session 1 is for grades 3-5 scheduled for 8-10 a.m. focusing on fundamentals and contests.
Session 2 for grades 6-8 is 10 a.m.-noon with focuses of fundamentals, contests and learning the Green Wave system.
Session 3 is for grades 9-12 to run 1-3 p.m. focusing on fundamentals, the Green Wave system and coaches from area colleges and high schools talking about what it takes to play at the next level.
Each camper n sessions 1 and t is to receive a camp T-shirt and basketball along with the opportunity to compete in contests for award given to the Camp Champ for each.
Campers in session 3 are to receive a T-shirt and instruction from a collection of collegiate and high school coaches.
Cost is $40 per camper with an additional camper from the same immediate family to register for $30.
Boys can register at the door at the first day of camp but are not guaranteed a basketball while still paying the full fee.

Trojan Baseball Camp coming
CHARLESTON – The Trojan Booster Club's Baseball Camp directed by Charleston High School coach Derrick Landrus is scheduled for June 4-6 at the Seaton Complex's Trojan and Panther Fields.
Sessions for players entering grades 1-4 are scheduled for 8:30-11 a.m. And those for grades 5-8 for noon-2:30 p.m.
Fee is $45 per person, $75 for two brothers or $100 for three brothers and includes a T-shirt.

Lady Trojan camp is June 3-5
CHARLESTON – The Lady Trojan Basketball Camp for girls entering grades 1-8 is scheduled for 9-11:30 a.m. June 3-5 at Charleston High School.
Charleston High School girls' basketball coach Jeff Miller and his staff are to instruct the camp that is to group participants by age and skill level with all to receive individual instruction.
Cost is $40 per camper or $75 per family and includes a T-shirt and daily awards.

CHARLESTON – Trojan Basketball camps for boys entering grades 1-8 are scheduled for June 10-12 at Charleston High School.
Charleston High School head coach Jim Wood is the director of the camps sponsored by the Trojan Booster Club.
Sessions for boys entering grades 5-8 are to run 8:3-11:30 a.m. with a cost of $50 per camper.
For boys entering grades 1-4 sessions are noon to 2 p.m. and cost $35.
Each participant is to receive a T-shirt.

Lake Land plans basketball camps
MATTOON – Summer basketball camps for boys and girls entering grades 3-2 are scheduled at Lake Land College.
Sessions are planned for June 23-26, July 14-17 and July 21-24 and the direction of Lake Land men's coach Cedric Brown.
Cost is $200 per session or $175 if pre-registered and paid by June 20.
Or campers can pay $60 per day, $50 if preregistered by June 30.

SPFF golf, 5K scheduled
CASEY – Scott's Pay-It Forward Foundation's fifth annual Memorial Golf Scramble and fourth annual 5K Fun Run/Walk are scheduled for June 14.
The 5K Fun Run/Walk is to start at Casey's Fairview Park with registration at 7:30 a.m. and the run/walk to start at 8.
Pre-registration fee for the 5K Fun Run/Walk is $25 per person or if you register the morning of the event the fee is $30.
Participants can pre-register by logging onto www.scottspayitforward.org.
Pre-registered participants are to receive a T-Shirt the day of the race.
Shirts are to be ordered for those who sign up the morning of the event.
The Golf Scramble is scheduled for June 14 at Casey Country Club with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
Registration is $50 per person with lunch included for all golfers. Food items are to be available for purchase during the event as well.
SPIFF is seeking hole sponsors at $150 as well as those interested in registering a team to play in the event.
Prizes totaling $1,000 are to be awarded to the winning teams.
Last year from business support the SPIFF has been able to make donations to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and St Louis Children’s Hospital in the amount of $20,000 this past year.
Trojan Classic is June 9
CHARLESTON – The 23rd annual Trojan Golf Classic is scheduled for June 9 at Charleston Country Club.
The Trojan Booster Club's fundraiser for Charleston school district athletics has lunch scheduled for 11:30 a.m. with tee times starting at 12:30 p.m.
Steve and Kurt Hankenson, brothers who were standout wrestlers, are the honored alums. In addition to being a fourth-place state wrestler and University of Illinois wrestler, Steve was an All-Apollo Conference football halfback while Kurt was a regional wrestling champion and a club soccer player.
A car is offered for a hole-in-one while closest to the pin is to receive a prize.
The entry fee of $75 per person includes lunch and 18 holes of golf with use of a cart. Lunch only is $10.
Golf hole sponsorships are available at $75 each.

Wave to play at Busch Stadium
MATTOON – Mattoon High School's baseball team's annual exhibition game at St. Louis’ Busch Stadium is set for June 1.
The Green Wave is to play South Central following the Cardinals’ 1:10 p.m. game against the San Francisco giants.
Tickets good for both games at the first base terrace are priced at $30 and include a hot dog and soft drink.
They are available by calling coach Mark Jackley at MHS at 238-7826 or from any Green Wave baseball player.

Basketball lessons available
MATTOON – Individual basketball lessons are being offered by Lake Land assistant men's basketball coach Brendan Walker.
Each less is $30 per hour with group rates available.
Lessons cover improving ball handling, moving without the basketball, quickness with the ball, shooting technique, improved shooting with and without the ball and improving your overall offensive game.

Volleyball camp, league planned
STRASBURG – The seventh annual Rivals United volleyball camp is scheduled for June 9-13 at Stewardson-Strasburg High School.
Previously called Trinity Volleyball Camp, this camp on fundamentals and new drills is for girls in grades 2-8 in the 2013-14 school year.
Cost is $30 for grades 2-5 with sessions at 8-9:30 a.m.
For grades 6-8 the cost is $45 for sessions 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Also offered is the third annual intramural league for grades 3-8 this school year.
The league is to play 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on June 17 and 24 and July 1, 8 and 14. Cost is $45 for three days or $55 for five days.

Run for Bagel is July 19
MATTOON – The 27th Run For the Bagel 10K, 5K and one-mile fun run is scheduled for July 19 in conjunction with Mattoon's Bagelfest.
The Mattoon Area Family YMCA is host of the event with registration now open.
All 5K, 10K runners, 5K walkers and timed fun runners are to have Champion/MYLAPS bib timing in their registration packet. Real Time results are from the start mat to finish, and the computerized results are to be provided by Champion 24/7.
Also offered are technical shirts for 5K and 10K participants with those registered by July 1 guaranteed their shirt size.
Event day registration and packet pick up is 6-6:30 a.m. With the 10K to start at 7 a.m., 5K and walk at 7:10, one-mile fun run at 7:15 and awards ceremony at 8:15.
Entry fee is $22 for 5K and 10K runners with a $5 late fee added after July 27.

EIU plans golf outings
CHARLESTON – Dates have been set for the Eastern Illinois Panther Club Golf Outings for the summer and early fall of 2014.
This year the EIU Panther Club is to play host to five golf outings with proceeds from the events going to support EIU student-athletes.
– The 10th annual Chicago-EIU Golf Classic at White Eagle Golf Club on June 16 in Naperville. Cost is $175 per person or $700 for a foursome.
– A new mid-summer outing July 18 St. Louis' Norman K. Probstein Golf Course at Forest Park. Cost is $125 per person or $500 for a foursome.
– The Athletic Director's Cup Aug 15 at Mattoon Golf & Country Club. Cost is $80 per person or $320 for a foursome.
– The Sept. 5 Panther Scholarship Scramble at Charleston Country Club. Cost is $80 per person or $320 for a foursome.

Cubs-Cards trip offered
CHARLESTON -- The Charleston Parks and Recreation Department is to have a baseball trip to St. Louis to see the Chicago Cubs vs. St. Louis Cardinals game scheduled for 1:15 p.m. Aug. 31.
Tickets are $58 per person for the all-age event. Those 16-and-under must be accompanied by an adult. The seats are in section 335, row 2,3 and 4.
The bus is to leave the Charleston High School parking lot at 9:45 a.m.
