Charleston beats Mahomet-Seymour

MAHOMET (JG-TC) — Charleston’s girls’ basketball team defeated Mahomet-Seymour 73-58 Thursday in an Apollo Conference game.

Shae Littleford led the Lady Trojans with 20 points. Paige Swango and Bernie Jackson also scored in double figures with 20 and 10 points, respectively. Jackson led the team with six rebounds.

Charleston improves to 21-1 overall, 9-1 in the conference, and host Mt. Zion next Thursday for another conference game.

JV wins 51-49

Led by Elizabeth Buescher’s 22 points, the Charleston junior varsity team defeated Mahomet-Seymour 51-49.

Mattoon drops Apollo Conference game

EFFINGHAM -- Mattoon trailed Effingham, the No. 6 team in the latest Class 3A rankings, just 21-13 at halftime of the Apollo Conference girls' basketball game. The Green Wave got outscored 21-10 in the second half in a 42-23 loss, but the first time the two teams played Effingham won 70-34. 

Mattoon was led by Ashlyn MacDonald with eight points. 

The Green Wave, 10-16 overall and 3-8 in the conference, is to play host to Taylorville Monday in conference action.
