Eastern Illinois coach Jay Spoonhour whistles for his team's attention during a loss at Murray State.

EIU has made an addition to its basketball staff.

IUPUI assistant coach Matt Bringman has joined Jay Spoonhour’s staff in the same role, the school announced Thursday.

Bringman spent the last two years with Horizon League member IUPUI, where he coached. Prior to IUPUI, he spent his career in the junior college and lower division ranks. He was an assistant at South Plains College in Texas from 2016-17. He and current EIU assistant Justin Brown were on staff together at South Plains in 2016-17.

Prior to South Plains, Bringman worked at Polk State College in Florida and University of Pikeville, an NAIA school in Kentucky.

Bringman replaces Tone Boyle, who was on EIU’s staff for two years. He helped in the recruitment of current Panther players Shareef Smith and Deang Deang, who played for him at Highland C.C. (Ill.) in 2017-18.
