EIU Giving Blue day is today

Eastern Illinois Athletics will participate in Giving Blue Day on Tuesday, November 27, 2018. This will be the second consecutive year that EIU Athletics has participated in this national day of giving which takes place annually on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.

Created in 2012, Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Observed on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday kicks of the charitable season, which includes holiday and end-of-year giving.

Giving Blue Day allows alumni and supporters to make charitable donations to Eastern Illinois Athletics which will go directly to support EIU's 20 intercollegiate sport teams. Donations made be made to the general athletic department or to a specific sport. Donations on Giving Blue Day help EIU student-athletes in a variety of ways from additional travel opportunities, athletic equipment and locker room enhancements just to name a few.

Wallace named OVC Newcomer of the Week

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Illinois sophomore guard Josiah Wallace has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for men's basketball after helping the Panthers post a 2-1 record at the visitcurrituckOBX.com Battle in the Blue Ridge in Asheville, NC.

Wallace averaged 24.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists/game while hitting 55.3 percent (26-of-47) from the field, 57.1 percent (12-of-21) from 3-point range and 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from the free throw line. He had 22 points and six rebounds in the opener, a 79-78 win over Gardner-Webb; in that contest he hit 4-of-7 from 3-point range. The following day he scored a season-high 31 points (all of which came in the second half and overtime) as EIU overcame a 12-point second half deficit to top Arkansas State 90-86. He hit the jumper with 1.4 seconds left at the end of regulation to force the overtime period, where he scored 10 of EIU's 13 points. In that game he was 10-of-19 from the field (5-of-8 from 3-point range) and added five assists and three rebounds. Wallace capped the week with 19 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal in a loss to UNC Wilmington. Wallace ranks fifth in the OVC in scoring (17.0 points/game) and seventh in 3-pointers made (2.3/game).

EIU returns to action on Wednesday hosting Purdue Fort Wayne at 7 pm in Lantz Arena. The game will be ESPN+.
