Two track and field athletes earn all-academic honors
Joe Smith and MaKenna Wilson from Eastern Illinois track and field were both named USTFCCCA All-Academic selections this week. In addition the EIU women's track team was honored as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for posting a team grade point average of 3.33.
Smith is a sports management major who competed in the NCAA West Regional this season in the men's triple jump. Smith was a member of the OVC Outdoor Championship team as he placed second in the event to earn second team All-OVC honors with a season best jump of 49'1.50". Smith placed 28th at the NCAA Regional with a jump of 49'0.25". Smith graduated early and will be entering his second year in the graduate program at EIU.

Wilson is a biology major who competed in the NCAA West Regional in the women's hammer throw. During the season Wilson set the EIU record in the event with a season best throw of 197'3" at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships which won the event earning the sophomore first team All-OVC honors. Wilson would place 29th at the NCAA Regional with a throw of 191'6".
To be selected as a USTFCCCA All-Academic selection, a student-athlete must hold a 3.25 or higher grade point average and have met one of two competition criteria 1.) during indoor season rank in the top 96 for individual events or top 48 for relay events, 2.) during outdoor season compete at the NCAA Regional.
