Lake Land women drop conference game

CARTERVILLE—John A. Logan College upset Lake Land the No. 11 team in the nation in Division II NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association)  82-68 Sunday in a Great Rivers Athletic Conference game.

The Lady Volunteers jumped out to a 26-20 lead in the first quarter and extended it to 48-35 at halftime. The Lady Lakers outscored John A. Logan 20-16 in the third quarter making it 64-55 before the Volunteers went on to win.

Aislinn Parish, a Charleston alumnus, led the Lady Lakers with 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Jamie Sandschafer, Mattoon graduate Avery Jackson and Arie Sims also scored in double figures with 13, 11 and 10 points, respectively. Sims had five steals.

Lake Land falls to 14-4 overall, 4-3 in the conference, and hosts Southeastern Illinois College at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday for another conference game.

CARTERVILLE—John A. Logan College defeated Lake Land 84-70 Sunday in a Great Rivers Athletic Conference game postponed from Saturday.

The Lakers fell behind 33-24 in the first half.

Scott McGann got a double double for Lake Land with 17 points and 16 rebounds. McGann also got two blocks. Adam Price and Josh Brewer also broke into double figures with 14 and 11 points, respectively. Tra Landers got two steals and Hunter White had seven assists.

John A. Logan is now 15-1 overall, 6-0 in the conference. Lake Land falls to 4-11 overall, 0-7 in the conference.
