MATTOON — Lake Land's softball team extended its winning streak to seven games with a Great Rivers Athletic Conference doubleheader triumph over Shawnee Community College Saturday 9-1 and 4-3.
In the first game, the Lady Lakers jumped out to a 5-0 advantage after one and led 7-0 after two innings.
Frankie Izard, Rachael Quaritsch and Amaya Eubanks were all 2-for-3, while Peyton DeChant and Allie Helton drove in two runs each for Lake Land.
Mattoon grad Abe Lee picked up the win, allowing six hits and one run with one walk and five strikeouts.

While the Lady Lakers dominated the first game, it was anything but that in the second game which came down to the final inning when Lake Land pushed across the winning run with one out. In fact, the Lady Lakers scored the final four runs in the last four innings to win after trailing 3-0.
The Lady Lakers were held to five hits and committed four errors to help Shawnee, who scored one run in each of the first three innings.
Quaritsch was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Emmy Graver and Charleston grad Natalie Gordon drove in a run each.
Lake Land, 36-14 overall and 21-5 in the GRAC, good for second place, is to Mount Carmel to face the top team in the Conference, Wabash Valley, a team that is receiving votes in the NJCAA Division rankings.
In the two games between the two schools on March 16, the Lady Lakers split winning 11-4 and falling 5-4.
