Softball wins two vs. Frontier
MATTOON — Lake Land softball began a new winning streak after seeing its run of eight straight victories snapped in a shootout loss to Wabash Valley on Tuesday.
The Lakers swept Frontier in a non-conference doubleheader Friday afternoon, winning the first game 2-0 and the second game 7-0. They moved to 39-15 on the season.
Lake Land 2, Frontier 0
Abrienne Lee hurled a shutout and allowed just five baserunners. She struck out seven batters and walked one. She allowed four hits, all singles, and needed just 86 pitches.

Lake Land scored once in the fourth inning and again in the fifth. Peyton DeChant and Kali Husman drove in the runs, with Husman supplying Lake Land’s lone multi-hit game.
Lake Land 7, Frontier 2
Lake Land scored four runs in the bottom of the third to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 5-2 advantage.
Izard and Allie Helton had three hits each and combined for three RBI. Izard also scored twice and stole a base.
Lee, after pitching the first game, drove in two runs and had two hits.
Sydney Rawlings allowed two runs (one earned) in seven innings of work to pick up the win on the mound. She had seven strikeouts against one walk.
Lake Land resumes conference action on Thursday against Rend Lake.
