MADISON (EIU) -- Eastern Illinois golfer Romeo Perez opened the 2017 fall season with a solid effort as he was tied for 17th at the season opening SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational this week at the Gateway National Golf Club.
Perez opened the tournament with an even par round of 71 which placed him tied for 14th after 18 holes. He shot 75 in the afternoon round to drop back into a tie for 22nd with teammate Charlie Adare. Adare opened with a round of 75 before closing Monday play with a round of 71.
During the final round Perez shot a round of 72 to post a five-over total of 218 for the tournament. Adare would shoot 83 in the final round as he placed 54th with a 54-hole score of 229.
Alex Gowin was tied for 86th with Panther newcomer Sebastian Olrog. Both players carded a 54-hole total of 239. Gowin’s best round was on Monday afternoon with a round of 77. Olrog had opening and closing rounds of 79.
Marcello Verdolin was EIU’s final golfer finishing in 94th with a score of 254.
Host SIUE won the team title while Ethan Brue of Bradley was the individual medalist with a 54-hole total of 205 (-8).
