Casey-Westfield wins LIC game

BRIDGEPORT—Casey-Westfield defeated Little Illini Conference foe Red Hill 64-50 Wednesday.

Red Hill took a 12-9 lead in the first quarter, but the Warriors outscored Red Hill 17-11 in the second period to lead 26-23 at the half and went on for the win.

Noah Livingston had a double double for the Warriors with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Luke Richards led the team with 26 points and a block. Marcus Downs also broke into double figures with 12 points, respectively. Ethan Gilbert had four assists.

Casey-Westfield improves to 14-1 and hosts Paris for another LIC game Friday.

Schlechte named to News-Gazette All-State volleyball team

CHAMPAIGN -- WSS' Megan Schlechte, a senior at Stewardson-Strasburg, was one of 18 players named to the second team Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette All-State Volleyball team. 

Schlechte, a 5-11 outside hitter, who is headed to Lewis University, averaged 5.8 kills, 3.6 digs, 0.7 aces and 0.5 blocks per set for the 32-7 Hatchets. 

Also named to the special mention 50 was Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond senior Taylor Powell, an outside hitter. 

Plainfield Central's Taylor Landfair was the News-Gazette Player of the Year. She has committed to Minnesota.
