Casey wins LIC game in nine innings
CASEY — Lawrenceville and Casey-Westfield were all tied up at two after six innings. Neither team scored in the seventh or eighth innings. The Warriors won with no one out in the ninth, 3-2.
Rece Overbeck was 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI, while Ashton Rodgers was 1-for-4 with an RBI as was A.J. Stepina for the 11-6 Warriors, who are to play host to Effingham Friday in a non-conference game.
Trevor Warfel picked up the win throwing the ninth and not allowing a hit with no walks and two strikeouts for the Warriors, who are 1-3 in the LIC.
Sullivan falls in seventh to Tuscola
SULLIVAN — Tuscola a team coached by Arthur grad Adam Carver, entered Monday's Central Illinois Conference game against Sullivan with a 15-2 record and on a nine-game winning streak. The Redskins led the Warriors 2-1 after three innings. Tuscola tied it in the fourth. The game remained deadlocked until Tuscola pushed across a run in the seventh for a 3-2 victory over the Redskins.
Austin Scott was 2-for-3 at the No. 9 spot for Sullivan with two stolen bases out of six in the game for the Redskins. Both runs were unearned.
Sullivan, 2-11 overall and 1-3 in the conference, is to play host to Warrensburg-Latham Tuesday in another CIC contest.
Cumberland rolls past Martinsville
MARTINSVILLE — Cumberland scored six runs in the first and cruised to its 12 straight win with a 23-0 five-inning triumph over Martinsville Monday.
Five Pirates had at least two hits each in the Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division victory. Dayton Mitchell led the way by going 3-for-3 with a home run and six runs batted in, while Ross Hemmen was perfect in three at-bats with a double and an RBI.
Memphis Waggoner was the winning pitcher allowing only a leadoff hit by Grant Haenig in the fourth. He had no walks and eight strikeouts.
Cumberland, 12-2, is to play host to WSS Tuesday in a non-conference game, while Martinsville, 0-10, is to Play host to Tri-County Wednesday in a division doubleheader.
Lewis hits homer in Shelbyville walk-off
SHELBYVILLE — In a Central Illinois Conference game Monday, Shelbyville trailed 9-8 after six and a half innings. Joselyn Lewis hit a home run with two outs in the Lady Rams seventh for a 12-9 triumph.
Lewis was 3-for-5 with a triple and the home run and three runs batted in, while Kaytlin Tucker was 3-for-4 with a double and Allison Schurricht was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Shelbyville, 5-9 overall and 3-3 in the conference is to travel to Sullivan Wednesday for another conference game.
Schlechte hurls one-hitter as WSS wins NTC game
STRASBURG — WSS's Megan Schlechte hurled a one-hitter with no walks and six strikeouts as the Hatchets downed Altamont 5-0 in a National Trail Conference game Monday.
Freshman Karlie Bean was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the 23-0-1 Hatchets, who are to travel to Meridian Tuesday for a non-conference game.
Neoga pounds Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 13-1
COWDEN — Neoga led just 2-1 in Monday's National Trail Conference game after two innings before scoring 11 unanswered runs in a 13-1 five-inning victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.
Molly Sheehan was 2-for-4 with a triple and four runs batted in, while Elizabeth Titus helped her own cause by going 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs batted in. Trista Moore was 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs batted in for Neoga.
Titus was the winning pitcher for the 7-9 team that is to play host to Newton Tuesday in a non-conference game.
Cumberland picks up easy LOVC SE win
MARTINSVILLE — Cumberland scored 12 runs in the second and won 20-0 Monday over Martinsville in a LIttle Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division game. The game was called after four innings due to the run rule.
Eight batters had at least two hits for the 11-4 Lady Pirates, who are 5-1 in the division. Liberty Dunaway led the Lady Pirate offense by going 3-for-4 with four runs batted in and she improved to 7-1 in the pitching circle by allowing one hit in three innings.
Cumberland is to travel to Villa Grove Wednesday in another division game. Martinsville is 4-6 and 1-3 in the division and is to play host to Tri-County Wednesday also in a division game.
