Casey-Westfield wins LIC opener

CASEY — The Casey-Westfield boys basketball team won its seventh straight game Friday defeating Robinson 76-63 in the Warriors’ Little Illini Conference opener.

The Warriors grabbed a 23-17 lead in the first quarter, but Robinson out-scored Casey-Westfield 10-8 in the second period, cutting the lead to 31-27. The Warriors held on to the lead for the win.

Luke Richards had a double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds for the Warriors. Marcus Downs scored 19 points while Noah Livingston added 16 points and led the team with four steals. Ethan Gilbert got nine assists.

Casey-Westfield is now 7-0 and travels to Neoga on Tuesday for a non-conference contest.

Tri-County beats Okaw Valley

BETHANY — Tri-County defeated Okaw Valley 51-48 Friday in a close Little Okaw Valley Conference non-division game.

The Timberwolves out-scored Tri-County 11-8 in the first quarter, but the Titans came back to take an 18-16 lead at halftime. The game was close with Tri-County ahead 36-33 after three periods, but the Titans held on for the win.

Mason Hutchinson led the Titans with 19 points and Trenton Pinnell also scored in double digits with 10 points.

Luke Vanderburgh led the Timberwolves with 11 points and Cole Nichols added 10 mores.

Tri-County improves to 9-2 and hosts Arthur Okaw Christian at Oakland for a non-conference game Tuesday.

Okaw Valley is now 1-8 and travels to Moweaqua for a non-conference game against Central A&M next Friday.

Cumberland downs A-L-A-H

TOLEDO — Cumberland defeated Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond 72-46 Friday in a Little Okaw Valley Conference non-division game.

Zach Wolke led the Pirates with 22 points. Myles Gerhardt and Connor Butler also broke into double figures with 19 and 14 points, respectively.

Austin Plank led the Knights with 10 points.

A-L-A-H is now 0-5 and hosts Shelbyville next Friday.

Cumberland improves to 3-4 and plays in the St. Elmo Holiday Tournament starting Tuesday.

Shelbyville downs WSS

STRASBURG — Shelbyville defeated WSS 65-37. Shelbyville had the lead every quarter of the game. Shelbyville won with a 28 point lead on WSS.

Shelbyville had two players score in double-figures. Malcolm Miller led Shelbyville with 25 points, Kade Kull followed with 12 points.

WSS was led by Beau Bennett with 18 points.

Shelbyville improved their record to 4-0 for the season. WSS record fell to a 4-4 overall for the season.

Shelbyville will travel to Decatur LSA on Tuesday.

WSS will be playing in the St. Elmo Tournament on Monday.


WSS defeats Cerro Gordo

WINDSOR — WSS defeated Cerro Gordo 71-38 Friday in a non-conference game.

WSS held the lead every quarter of the game. The game ended in a 33-point difference.

WSS improved its season record to 7-2.

WSS had four players score in double figures. Megan Schlechte led WSS with 20 points; Nikki Trussell followed with 14 points; Katrina Davis scored 11 points; and Hannah Hayes scored 10 points. Katrina Davis scored a 3-pointer for WSS.

WSS will host Oblong on Monday at Stewardson-Strasburg.

Casey-Westfield loses LIC opener

BRIDGEPORT — Red Hill beat Casey-Westfield 53-28 Thursday in the team’s first Little Illini Conference game of the season.

The Lady Warriors stayed close during the first half, ending the first quarter 8-6 and out-scoring Red Hill 8-7 in the second quarter to trail 15-14 at the half. Then Red Hill turned up the heat to take a 35-22 lead in the third quarter and go on for the win.

Jae Lynn Riggleman got a double-double for the Lady Warriors with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Eva Richardson had three steals.

Casey-Westfield drops to 3-4 overall and hosts Paris for another conference game Monday.
