CHAMPAIGN — Tri-County senior Harley Barry, a guard, was named to the 42nd annual Champaign-Urbana All-Area Girls' Basketball team. Barry, who is 5-6, helped the Lady Titans go 29-6 and earn fourth place in the Class 1A state tournament.
Barry averaged 11.3 points, 4.5 assists and 3.4 steals per game and she was one of 10 on the first team.
On the 10-member second team was her sister Tayler Barry, a 5-6 sophomore guard for Tri-County. In addition, Arthur Okaw Christian's Amanda Franklin, a 5-10 guard/forward as well as Sullivan's Esther Miller, a 5-8 senior forward along with Tri-County's Kiersten Price-Wilson, a 5-11 senior center also made the second team.
Four JG-TC area players made the 30-member special mention team in Alexa Franklin of Arthur Okaw Christian, Marissa Hershberger of Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond, Arcola's KayLee Hohlbauch and Sullivan's Emily White.
Ten of the 81 players on the all-area honorable mention were from the JG-TC area in Arcola's Olivia Key and Arianna Warren and Marcy Petersheim of A-L-A-H. Arthur Okaw Christian's Anna Houk, Lyla Kauffman, and Lindsey Mast, as well as Sullivan's Josie Orris and Avery Still and Tri-County's Grace Burnside and Maiya Eskew, received honorable mention status.
Danville Schlarman's Anaya Peoples was the all-area player of the year, while her coach and father Keith Peoples earned the coach of the year honors for the Class 1A state champions.
