Fourth quarter helps Mattoon down Lincoln
LINCOLN -- Mattoon led Lincoln 24-16 at halftime of Monday's Apollo Conference game, but found themselves behind 37-31 heading into the final quarter. That is when the Green Wave outscored the Railsplitters 20-9 to win 51-46.
Mallory Ramage led Mattoon with 20 points, including 12 in the middle two quarters. She also led in steals with four. Flannery Sanders scored a season-high 15, including eight in the pivotal final period.
"Flannery Sanders made some huge shots and did a nice job of taking the ball to the basket and finishing," said Mattoon coach Amanda Aydt. "Mallory Ramage played a great game on both ends of the floor. Delainey Bryant, Jordan Sapp and Grace McDowell played excellent defense and came up with some big steals and rebounds. Amari Brown, Morgan Otto and Hallie Niemerg came in off the bench and gave us some good minutes."
Free throws also helped Mattoon as they were 13-of-18 (.722), including 8-of-12 in the fourth.
The Green Wave, 13-7 overall and 3-3 in the conference, are to travel to Paris Thursday for a non-conference game.
