Charleston wins

CHARLESTON—The Charleston baseball team beat Tolono Unity 10-2 Thursday in non-conference action.

The Trojans scored three runs in the second inning and one in the third to take a 4-0 lead before Unity scored a run in the top of the fourth to make it 4-1. Charleston extended its lead to 6-1 with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and Tolono’s final run came in the fifth.

Brayden Doyle hit a triple for the Trojans and Dayton Simpson doubled. Lane Harrell got the win, allowing one hit and no runs while striking out two batters in the first two innings.

Charleston hosts Mahomet-Seymour for an Apollo Conference game at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Charleston defeats Newton

NEWTON—Charleston defeated Newton 4-3.

Emily Price pitched a complete game for Charleston, giving up 8 hits, 3 runs (1 earned) and 2 walks. She recorded 11 strikeouts.

Charleston left seven runners on base to Newton's eight.

Hannah Harpster hit a double for Charleston.

Charleston plays Bloomington Central on Friday.
