Charleston plays to 5-5 tie

CHARLESTON—The Charleston baseball team ended a non-conference game with Terre Haute West Vigo in a 5-5 tie Thursday.

West Vigo scored two runs in the first inning and one in the top of the second to take a 3-0 lead, but the Trojans scored their first two runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-2 and tied the game at 3-3 in the third with another run. West Vigo got its final two runs in the fourth inning, but Charleston tied it again with two in the fifth. A the end of the seventh inning it was still 5-5, so the teams played a scoreless eighth inning before calling it quits.

Ethan Dow hit a home run for the Trojans and Keegan Brady doubled. Ben Hess pitched the first four innings allowing seven hits and five runs, four earned, while striking out four batters. Cory Spour relieved Hess and took the mound for the next two innings allowing no hits and no runs while striking out one. Kam King threw the final two innings allowing two hits, but no runs.

West Vigo entered with a 21-3 record.

Charleston (22-10-1) hosts Terre Haute North Vigo for its last regular season game Friday.
