MOUNT ZION (JG-TC) — Mattoon's Summerlyn Smith placed in two events and won the triple jump to highlight the Decatur Area Invitational Wednesday. Shelbyville also participated in the meet. Smith won the triple jump at 34-6 and was second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:03.61. 

For the Green Wave, Mariah Ball placed third with a time of 2:40.54 in the 800 meter run and second in the high jump at 5-0. Kylie Haacke placed sixth with a time of 2:43.43 in the 800. Quincy Collings placed fourth with a time of 5:48.26 and Mickenze Scholfield placed fifth with a time of 5:59.93 in the 1,600.

For the Lady Rams, Alley Mitchell placed third in the 1,600 with a time of 5:47.70.

Mattoon is to continue the season on Saturday at the Apollo Indoor Track Meet at Mount Zion at 9:30 a.m.

Shelbyville is to travel Eastern Illinois University in Charleston for the Charleston Indoor Meet at 8:30 a.m.  March 10. 

Coffey places 28th in three-point Showdown

NORMAL -- Mattoon senior Bella Coffey made 4-of-15 in the Country Financial Three-Point Showdown Class 3A state preliminaries. 

She finished in a tie for 28th place out of 32 with Mia Edwards of Lakes and Mereidith Droeger of Chicago Payton. 

Nine was the number needed for a tiebreaker as one person made 11 and two made 10.
