PARIS—The Mattoon baseball team beat Champaign Centennial 6-2 winning the right to play for the Paris Class 3A Regional championship.
The Green Wave scored a run in the first inning, four in the third and one in the fourth. The Chargers got a run in the fourth and in the fifth.

Hayden Birdsong and Brock Smith each hit a double for the Wave. Jacob Spitz picked up the win allowing three hits and two runs, one earned, while striking out six batters in the first four and two-thirds innings. Meade Johnson finished the game on the mound allowing two hits and no runs while striking out three.
Mattoon, the number three seeded team, plays number two seed Effingham at 10 a.m. Saturday for the Regional title.
