HOFFMAN ESTATES -- The Mattoon tennis doubles pair of senior Reese Bergstrom and junior Coby Comstock finished the IHSA 1A State Tennis Tournament in the top 20. The due went 1-1 Friday after a 2-1 Thursday. They downed Timothy Christian's Jack Rhiner and James Shervheim 8-1 before falling to Fenwick's Ryan Dunlap and Carlos Gutierrez 8-4.

Bergstrom and Comstock finished 3-2 at state for the second straight year. They went 23-5 overall.

“I couldn't be more proud of these two boys," Mattoon coach Joey Boyer said. "They both have the heart of a champion and played w the best of the best here in Chicago. I had several coaches walk up and compliment how good our team was and I think that says a lot about our program and what we are building back home. Reese Bergstrom will continue his tennis at DePauw University and he will shine. Coby will work in the offseason as usual and be back his senior year better than ever."

Last year the pair went 19-6, leading their first top-20 finish. It was the first time since Austin Frank and Magnus Wu in 2004 went 4-2 (Class A in the one-class system) that Mattoon had someone place in the top 20.
