VANDALIA — Five wrestlers from the JG-TC area will compete in the Vandalia Class 1A wrestling Sectional Friday and Saturday.
The five includes one from Shelbyville and four from Cumberland.
The top four in each weight class advance to the state tournament Feb. 20-22 at the State Farm Center in Champaign.
Shelbyville freshman Calvin Miller is in the 106 pound weight class.
Cumberland senior Blayne Donsbach is in the 132 pound weight class, while junior Rayce Zike is in the 138 pound weight class and senior Michael Carpenter is in the 152 pound weight class as well as sophomore Iysten Syfert is in the 160 pound weight class.
Last year, Zike and Carpenter finished fifth in the state in 126 and 160 pound weight classes are back as well as Syfert. Zike went 33-7, Carpenter 29-10 and Syfert was 26-14.
Carpenter and Zike are going for their third trip to state.
Donsbach was in the sectional in 2017. He is 20-9 and faces Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin's Darion Miller, a junior who is 30-11. The winner faces the No. 3 wrestler in the state in Litchfield's Will Carlisle, who is 34-0.
Zike is 35-2 and received a bye in the sectional. He faces the winner of Mount Zion's Johny Bowling (23-12) and James Tindle of Benton, who is 18-24. Zike was second in the Rex Avery Invitational at Petersburg PORTA.

Carpenter is 37-4 and received a bye, He faces the winner of the Redd Davis of Illinois School for the Visually Impaired vs. Roxanna's Corbin White. Carpenter was also second in his weight class at the Rex Avery Invite in December.
Syfert is 34-7 and faces Warrensburg-Latham's Joey Flore with the winner to go against Harrisburg's Brayden White, 26-9.
Donsbach advanced to the sectional by pinning Shelbyville's Ty Brachbill in 1:00 to earn third place, while Zike won his weight class in the regional by a 7-0 decision over Tolono Unity's Peyton Holt. Carpenter pinned Mount Carmel's Chevvy Wood in 3:50 to win the regional, while Syfert advanced by placing second in the regional. He lost to the No. 6 wrestler in the state in Tolono Unity's Pate Eastin 14-5 in a major decision.
Cumberland is coached by Cumberland grad Ash Edmonds.
Miller is 33-7 and received a bye. He awaits the winner of the Matthew Minick of Belleville Althoff (No. 2 in the Illinoismatmen.com rankings and 29-4) vs. Chantz Jaegers of Harrisburg, who is 21-14.
Miller was second in the Rex Avery Invite and last year in eighth grade he finished third in the 95 pound weight class.
In the regional at Robinson Miller won his weight class with a pin of Jordan Wood of Mount Carmel in 1:20.
