MATTOON — A key player for the St. Louis Cardinals pitching staff for the 2018 season will make an appearance at the Cardinals Caravan that stops at Lake Land on Sunday, Jan. 14 at noon.
Pitching prospect Alex Reyes, who missed last season with an injury but is expected to return and eventually join the starting rotation this year, is one of four players in the Cardinals system who will be part of the event at Laker Fieldhouse on Jan. 14.
The doors for the event open at 11 a.m. and tickets, which will be $10 each, will be available starting on Monday, Dec. 11.
Joining Reyes will be Luke Voit, Sam Tuivailala, Dakota Hudson, former Cardinal Ray King and emcee Chris Hrabe.
Reyes posted a 1.57 ERA with 52 strikeouts in 46 innings in 2016. He had Tommy John surgery before the 2017 season and missed the entire year.
Tuivailala has spent the past four season with the Cardinals as a reliever. Last season he appeared in 37 games and had a 2.55 earned run average. He struck out 34 batters in 42 1/3 innings.
Voit, a 26-year old first baseman, made his Major League debut with the Cardinals last season and appeared in 62 games. He batted .246 with four home runs and 18 RBIs in 114 at-bats.
Hudson is a starting pitcher who is rated the seventh-best prospect in the Cardinals organization by MLB.com. Hudson started 18 games at Double-A last season and had a 2.53 ERA in 114 innings and was promoted to Triple-A Memphis. He started seven games and pitched 38 2/3 innings in Memphis.
King pitched for the Cardinals for two seasons (2004 and 2005) and pitched 102 innings out of the bullpen in 163 games.
