Rogala Open for men, women and juniors set

MATTOON — The Rogala Open is scheduled for July 29 for the women's division. They play 18 holes. The entry fee is $35 for non-Rogala members and $25 for Rogala members.

The junior division is July 30. The ages 13-16 and 10-12 and they will play nine holes with the ages 6-9 playing five holes. The entry is free.

The men's division is August 4-5. They play 18 holes on Saturday, Aug. 4, and 18 holes on their flight Sunday, Aug. 5. The entry is $65 for non-Rogala members and $45 for Rogala members.

The men and women will be shooting for a hole-in-one on hole number three for $500 cash prize. Lunch will be provided for the men Saturday after they play. Call Rogala at 235-5518 for tee times.

Mattoon Lettermen Hall of Fame nominations due

MATTOON — Hall of Fame nominations for the Mattoon Letterman's Club are due by Tuesday, July 24 and can be emailed to or mailed to Rookies at 2012 Marshall Ave. c/o Stephen Stanley, Mattoon, Illinois 61938. Nominees must be graduated from Mattoon High School for at least 10 years and have lettered in a varsity sport. For any questions about nominations, please email the above address.

Past Club Presidents and current officers are invited to vote at Pilson Auto Center in the Chrysler store in Mattoon on Thursday, July 26 from 4pm-7pm. Past Club Presidents no longer residing in the area may call in their votes.

This year’s banquet sponsored by Pilson Auto Center will be held Thursday, August 23rd at the Mattoon American Legion. “Huddle” will start at 6 p.m.with the banquet starting at 7 p.m. This year’s guest speaker is MHS alum and the current University of Missouri assistant men's basketball coach Chris Hollender.

Tickets will be $15 (available at the door or in advance from current officer) and include a catered dinner. This event is open to the public and helps fund a scholarship for a MHS senior athlete.

EIU baseball to host Summer Showcase along with All Skills Camp

CHARLESTON — The Eastern Illinois baseball team will host a Showcase on July 24 and will also host an All Skills camp on July 29.

The Showcase is for high schools who will graduate from 2019 to 2022. It is a one-day event with the position player portion in the morning and the pitcher portion in the afternoon. The check-in for position players is from 8:30 to 9 a.m. on July 24. There will be stretching before the Showcase begins and then there will be running, defensive evaluation and skill instruction and offensive evaluation and skill instruction. Pitchers will check in from noon to 12:30 p.m. There will be stretching and instruction followed by bullpen sessions and catcher evaluations. EIU coach Jason Anderson will run the camp at EIU Coaches Stadium. The All Skills camp on July 29 is from 9 a.m. to noon for ages 6 to 10 and from 1 to 4 p.m. for ages 11 to 15. The camp is led by Anderson and his staff and the camp offers hitting, pitching, defense and base running instruction. There will be instruction, drills and competitions. The camp will be held at EIU's Coaches Stadium. The cost is $60 per participant. Registration will be at Coaches Stadium 30 minutes prior to the start of the camp.
