SULLIVAN — Jonathan Iacobazzi, a 10-year-old from Sullivan, broke a 37-year-old record in the 100 backstroke for the Sullivan Blue Dolphins.

His time was 1:14.54, breaking the previous record set by his coach, Jason Drury. Drury's time in 1982 was 1:15.67.

"It's a blast from the past," said Drury. "I placed fifth in state with that time. As a coach, I have pushed Jonathan like all my swimmers. If there is a record or a time to beat I let them know. Jonathan breaking the record confirms to me as a coach that the program is moving in the right direction."

A jubilant Iacobazzi said, "I was pretty excited because it was his last record on the board and it was one of my last meets as a 10-year-old. I really wanted to achieve my goal because I knew if I worked hard I could do it. My next goal is to try and break a new record every year."

In addition Anna Wooters set a Blue Dolphin record in the 50-meter freestyle at Senior State with a time of 24.73 seconds.
