Update: Aug. 15, 2026 - 7:30 p.m. - This afternoon, Mayor Chris Koos signed a second disaster declaration (PDF), adding flooding from the Aug. 14-16 rains as an additional reason for the declaration. Crews will wrap up work as night falls and return in the morning.
We intend to continue to pick up trash and recycling on our regular schedule. We have suspended bulky item and landscape waste pickup through next week to allow staff to focus on brush and tree collection.
With storms in the forecast tonight, we remind the community to avoid any downed power lines (assume all could be live) and to not drive, walk or bike through standing water.
Staff is watching the forecast closely and will be responding as needed. Following recent rains, many areas throughout the community are saturated. Detention basins are performing as intended and holding stormwater. These areas should drain over the next 48 to 72 hours.
All available crews are working. Sewer crews are concentrating on pump station maintenance, flooding, and storm sewer and drain inlet cleaning. Any other available crews are focusing on storm cleanup response.
Some roads remain difficult to navigate due to downed power lines and trees from Thursday’s (Aug. 13) storm. Please use caution.
We appreciate crews who have been working to restore power since Thursday. They, along with our crews, have been working tirelessly. We are grateful for the community’s patience during storm restoration efforts, which will take some time.
