Women’s tennis edged 4-3 by Illinois College

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team fell to Illinois College, 4-3, Tuesday, Sept. 8. The Lady Blues improve to 1-1 while the Titans fall to 1-1.

In doubles, Illinois College narrowly claimed the point. With IC winning on court one and IWU getting a 6-4 victory at No. 3 doubles from sophomores Elana Religioso (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet Seymour) and Adia Douglas (Flossmoor, Ill.-Homewood-Flossmoor), the Lady Blues secured the point on court two, winning 7-6 with a 17-15 score in the tiebreaker.

In singles, senior Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) collected her first singles win of the season, taking down Alyssa Wise 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Senior Olivia Bell improved to 2-0 in singles with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Maddy Easton on court five. Douglas also secured a straight set win at No. 6 singles to move to 2-0 this fall. However, the Lady Blues won two of their three singles matches in the third-set super tiebreakers to propel them ahead.

The Titans return home for the beginning of College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play Saturday, Sept. 12 against Augustana College. Action is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Evergreen Racquet Club.
