Heartland men's and women's cross country teams both finished third in the Prairie Stars Invitational last Friday.
The women's team finished with a score of 94 and an average time of 22:37. Freshman Caylie Ahten got her season started off strong with a fourth-place individual finish in 19:38. She was the highest-finishing athlete out of the NJCAA teams in the tournament. Finishing behind her was freshman Izzy McLeod in 19th place with a time of 21:28.7. Freshman Amanda Gonzalez finished in 23rd place with a time of 21:38.2.
Like the women's team, the men finished third with a score of 66 and an average time of 16:30. Leading the charge was freshman Sean Kaeb, who finished with a time of 16:07 and a ninth-place finish. Following him was sophomore Ryan Kuhn, who finished 12th in 16:26.4. In 14th place was freshman Ty Basham, who finished in 16:31.3. After him was freshman Keegan Dewall, who finished in 15th place with a time of 16:32.4.
The cross country teams will race again in the Heartland Invitational on Sept. 25.
