DECATUR, Ill. – Millikin University senior Leyton Ivers and junior Pete Britton return to campus as Prospect League champions after helping the Cape Catfish capture their second consecutive title.
The championship marks their second title in a row and third since 2020. The Catfish also set a new league record for most wins in a season with 45, surpassing the previous mark of 43 held by the Catfish and the Terre Haute Rex.
Ivers finished the season hitting .328 with five doubles, a triple, a home run, 27 RBIs and 43 runs scored. He was also a threat on the bases, swiping 15 bases on 19 attempts. Britton finished the season slashing .311/.387/.441 with 33 hits, a double, two triples and a home run, 26 RBIs, 11 stolen bases and 37 runs scored.
Ivers went on to start in all three games of the championship series against the Terre Haute Rex, tallying four runs, three hits, two RBIs and four walks during the series. Britton got the start in Game 2, going 1-for-4 with two runs scored. He entered Game 3 off the bench and delivered the series' biggest hit in the bottom of the sixth, driving in two runs with a single to center field. The hit proved to be all the Catfish needed as Cape secured its second straight Prospect League championship.
