WEEDMAN – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that Illinois 54 in Weedman will be closed on Thursday, Aug. 20.
The closure is necessary to perform work on the bridge that carries Illinois 54 over Salt Creek, three miles northeast of the DeWitt-McLean County line (between Interstate 74 and U.S. 136). The closure will be for one day only and is expected to last from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting.
Local traffic will have access to homes and businesses. All other traffic must follow the marked detour utilizing I-74 and U.S. 136.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Seven of Rebuild Illinois include $25.6 billion of improvements statewide to 24,498 lane miles of highway, 959 bridges and 1,475 additional safety improvements.
