NAPERVILLE, Ill. — The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin office announced its weekly player of the week honors for women's soccer Tuesday, Sept. 15. Senior Ava Mapes (Golden, Colo. – Lakewood) of the Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team earned her first career CCIW Offensive Player of the Week accolade, while North Central College's Lauren Richards earned defensive player of the week.
Mapes flashed the boot this past week, scoring five goals and one assist over three contests. In the Titans' 4-0 home-opening win against Wartburg, Mapes posted one goal and one assist. She turned it around Saturday, Sept. 12, to score the game-tying goal in the 88th minute in the Green and White's 1-1 draw against Dominican. Mapes then found herself to be a key contributor in the Titans' 6-1 win over Westminster, posting a hat trick for the first time in her career, scoring goals in the 16th, 62nd and 66th minutes. She is currently ranked first in the CCIW and 36th in Division III in goals. The Titans remain undefeated at home going into tonight's contest at 2-0-3.
