Big Blue tally 6-2 road win over Illinois College

Jacksonville, IL – Millikin University women's soccer traveled to Illinois College to wrap up the weekend, winning their fourth game in a row with a 6-2 triumph over the Lady Blues.

MU's Caty Schmidt struck first with a goal in the first eight minutes of regulation, setting the Big Blue up for success early on.

Junior captain Addison Weed broke out at the 25-minute mark with a goal unassisted. Ten minutes later, senior Alanna Smith was found by Izzy Jones to put the ball in the back of the net. This put the Big Blue up 3-0 going into halftime, not stopping there.

The Lady Blues did not go unresponsive, putting in a goal five minutes into the second half. Jones did not let that pass by with a goal of her own 10 minutes later, extending Millikin's lead to 4-1 with 30 minutes remaining.

With a bit of back-and-forth action, Illinois College was able to tally their second goal of the game at 65 minutes. Not even two minutes later, Jones took another shot at scoring with success, receiving help from Hannah Daly.

To score her ninth goal of the season, Jones put the Big Blue up 6-2 with her third goal of the game, all scored in the second half. This put the team at a total of 30 goals on the season, already having surpassed their 2025 season amount of 23.

"With a tough run of games coming up, we're pleased with the performances leading up," says head coach Ian Doherty. Capturing this win puts Millikin at 6-2 on the season with their fourth in a row.

Upcoming is a trip to Washington University in St. Louis, the No. 1 team in the nation, for a matchup that will put the Big Blue to a test. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Francis Olympic Field on Wednesday, September 23.
