In doubles, freshmen Weston Lange (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) and Tommy Sopko (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) won their first consolation match over Caleb Goff and Severin Kretchmar of Baldwin Wallace University, 8-3. Their tournament came to an end in the consolation round of 16, falling 8-2 to Arturo Mendoza and Martin Suarez of Anderson University (Ind.).
In singles, freshman Umar Bajwa (Wheaton, Ill.-St. Francis) won his consolation round of 32 match after his opponent, Jose Tapia Soto of Wilmington College, withdrew. Wong then lost 6-2, 6-0 to top-seeded Blake Robertson of Millikin University. In the bottom half of the draw, freshman Daniel Canivez (Champaign, Ill.-Champaign Central) won his round of 32 match, edging Earlham College's Mason Wolfe, 6-1, 6-1. Canivez came back to face No. 2-seeded Joao Vitor Espindola of Lake Forest College. After dropping the first set, 6-2, Canivez retired due to injury.
Bajwa will face off in the consolation semifinals against the winner of Kalamazoo College's Alex Fleming and Otterbein College's Tyler Thomas. Action begins tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m. ET.
