Bloomington, IL — Millikin University women's volleyball traveled one hour to the No. 4 team in the nation, Illinois Wesleyan University, for the second Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin matchup. Not able to overcome the strong Titans offense, Millikin was swept 0-3 with scores of 25-27, 13-25, 20-25.
The Big Blue kept up with the Titans in the opener with an extended set with 13 team kills, led by Maggye Smith with five at a .500 clip. Nikkel Johnson added four on .667 hitting with a block assist.
With IWU gaining all the momentum in the second set, rallying up three team blocks and 11 kills, they were able to hold MU to only three kills on negative hitting.
Looking to turn things around in the final set, Kyra Carothers picked up five kills on perfect hitting, making no errors on five attacks. Johnson added two more, totaling six kills on .333 hitting.
The Big Blue fall to 9-10 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. With one week off, Millikin volleyball returns to the court next Friday on October 9 at home versus Carroll University for another conference matchup. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in Griswold Center, also streaming on the CCIW Network.
